Διαβάζουμε λοιπόν, αλλά γιατί;

Στο ημερολόγιο που εξέδωσαν για το 2014 οι εκδόσεις Μεταίχμιο με κεντρικό θέμα "Διαβάζουμε λοιπόν αλλά γιατί;" μπορείτε να βρείτε (εκεί κατά τον Μάρτιο) την συνεισφορά μου την οποία και παραθέτω:

"Διαβάζω. Μικρό παιδί με ένα βιβλίο στα χέρια, η μάνα μου να με ψάχνει κι εγώ, καθισμένος σε ένα πεζοδρόμιο της Αμαλιάδας, να ψάχνω άλλους κόσμους, να διαβάζω.
Θαλαμοφύλακας στο στρατό να ψάχνω εσώτερους κόσμους, ο λοχαγός να με πιάνει να διαβάζω. Χαμένος στα βιβλιοπωλεία της Νέας Υόρκης, όλος ένα ερωτηματικό, να διαβάζω. Πλάι στη μικρή μου κόρη, για να κοιμηθεί,να της διαβάζω.
Με μια αγωνία για να φωτίσω τις αιτίες που με αφήνουν μισό, να διαβάζω. Μονήρης μέσα στο διάβασμα, να ψάχνω τον έρωτά μου για τον κόσμο, την φαντασιακή μου ταύτιση και γαλήνη με την κοινότητα.
Διαβάζω γιατί θέλω να διδαχθώ, να δοκιμάσω, να διαπερνώ. Διαβάζω, γιατί η εικόνα είναι xίλιες λέξεις αλλά καμμία απάντηση. Διαβάζω για να νοιώσω, να αισθανθώ. Διαβάζω γιατί αναζητώ πληροφορίες και υλικό.
Διαβάζω, για να διαβιβάσω. Διαβάζω, γιατί θέλω να οδηγήσω τους οικείους μου, τους αναγνώστες μου αλλού, σε μια πιο δίκαιη, αξιοπρεπή χώρα. Διαβάζω για να δώσω διέξοδο. Για όλα αυτά, χρόνια τώρα, διαβάζω!"

Introduction

Greece has been severely hit from the current crisis. The need for fiscal consolidation has had significant impacts both to the economy and the social situation. The GDP contracted by 6,4% in 2012 and is expected to contract by 4% the current year. Unemployment, has risen sharply and employment rate has fallen to 55,3% in 2012. Recently, Greece has shown some positive signs regarding fiscal consolidation and leading conjunctural and financial market indicators are showing a tendency for stabilization.

The historical high level of unemployment, long-term unemployment and youth unemployment (up to 29 years) constitute key factors for severe poverty and social exclusion. Along with that the number of households with very low work intensity has increased dramatically, homelessness is on rise during the last years and child poverty remains an important issue. In that context the main challenges in employment as well as the social protection and social inclusion field for Greece in 2013 are to speed up employment policies and to limit the social impact of the crisis and of the fiscal consolidation measureς through the improvement and effectiveness of social transfers.

The world we live in: Global shift-a sinking old world

The socio-economic structure of our societies undergoes a radical shift. What we call globalization seems to follow a path beyond the will of those that promoted it in the first place. The Third World is no longer such. China, India, Brazil and a number of other countries have emerged as the new industrial centers of the world.

The consequences for Europe are of a historic magnitude. 350 billion fall in EU-27 private investment in 2007-2011, larger than any previous decline in absolute terms says McKinsey’s study.

 So, after the flight of industry now follows the flight of capital. Resources move out to the new emerging economic powers, leaving behind states that struggle for maintaining balanced budgets, tax levels, services, declining public infrastructures, shrinking welfare states. The fear of deindustrialization has become the new talk in Brussels, Washington, London, Paris, Rome, Athens.

If globalization marks the dawn of a new beyond-the-west era, new developments are taking place on the ground. According to Berith Wikström:

·        Approximately 70 per cent of young entrepreneurs want to start businesses with others.

·        Cooperative entrepreneurship is growing markedly faster than joint stock companies. It has doubled in size over the course of a decade in terms of turnover and employment.

·        Cooperative company management boards are approximately three times more gender-equal than joint stock companies.
